Frequently Asked Questions

How does coaching differ from mentorship, consulting or therapy?

Coaching is a partnership of equals focused on transformational change. While a consultant or mentor provides advice and delivers recommended solutions, as a trained coach, I lead from behind, and have no agenda other than my client’s. My focus is on my clients’ growth and development so that they are better equipped to achieve their own solutions.

A therapist provides expert support, with an orientation toward mental health and healing. While coaching is therapeutic, it is not therapy.

How does coaching work?

My coaching uses the Hudson Institute methodology as a framework along with other tools. I work with my clients to understand and clarify their goals, support them as they work to see more clearly what they may be doing or not doing that is creating obstacles to achieving those goals, and build action plans to move forward.

What’s the average length of a coaching engagement and how often will we meet?

The average engagement is six months, meeting every two weeks. Three and twelve month options are also available, and all engagements are renewable.

What if I’m in transition or my organization won’t sponsor my coaching?

Coaching can be extremely helpful for working through the challenges brought by transitions in careers and life, and organizations often don’t invest in development of talented individuals below the most senior levels. We welcome the opportunity to provide coaching to support individuals in these circumstances. Special options and rates are available.
